Collimators are major sources of impedance in a storage ring. In particular, the transverse impedance of the collimators can induce beam instabilities, and therefore, it is essential to minimize the impedance as much as possible to mitigate such effects. In this study, we mainly use GdfidL to investigate how the geometry of simplified collimator models affects the wake potential. Based on these results, we propose impedance reduction strategies and quantitatively evaluate their effectiveness in mitigating instabilities using PyHEADTAIL, taking the Low Energy Ring (LER) of SuperKEKB as a case study.
